The Baring Archive has made the news in a Bloomberg article on the Falklands Referendum.
In 1824, Barings lead managed a £1 million bond for the State of Buenos Aires however, in 1828, the Argentine Government defaulted.
Remarkably, after some twenty years of negotiations, the Argentine Government offered to settle the debt by dropping their claim to the Falkland islands.
This offer was rejected on the grounds that the Falklands were already considered to be Biritish.
